Characterization of PVDF/Graphene Nanocomposite Membranes for Water Desalination with Enhanced Antifungal Activity

چکیده

Seawater desalination is a worldwide concern for the sustainable production of drinking water. In this regard, membrane distillation (MD) has shown potential effective brine treatment. However, lack appropriate MD membranes limits its industrial expansion since they experience fouling and wetting issues. Therefore, hydrophobic are promising candidates to successfully deal with such phenomena that typical commercially available membranes. Here, several graphene/polyvinylidene (PVDF_G) different graphene loading (0–10 wt%) were prepared through phase inversion method. After full characterization resulting membranes, surface revealed well-dispersed in polymer matrix (0.33 0.5 wt% loading) led excellent water repellence together rough structure, large area. Importantly, antifungal activity tests films indicated an increase inhibition percentage PVDF_G against Curvularia sp. fungal strain. properties found be synergistic result toxicity topography.

Nanocomposite Ultrafiltration Membranes Incorporated with Zeolite and Carbon Nanotubes for Enhanced Water Separation

The objective of this work is to develop a new class of nanocomposite ultrafiltration (UF) membranes with excellent solute rejection rate and superior water flux using zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The effect of ZIF-8 and MWCNTs loadings on the properties of polyvinyldifluoride (PVDF)-based membrane were investigated by introducing respecti...

Hydrophobic Ceramic Membranes for Water Desalination

Hydrophilic ceramic membranes (tubular and planar) made of TiO2 and Al2O3 were efficiently modified with non-fluorinated hydrophobic grafting molecules. As a result of condensation reaction between hydroxyl groups on the membrane and reactive groups of modifiers, the hydrophobic surfaces were obtained. Ceramic materials were chemically modified using three various non-fluorinated grafting agent...

Multilayer Nanoporous Graphene Membranes for Water Desalination.

While single-layer nanoporous graphene (NPG) has shown promise as a reverse osmosis (RO) desalination membrane, multilayer graphene membranes can be synthesized more economically than the single-layer material. In this work, we build upon the knowledge gained to date toward single-layer graphene to explore how multilayer NPG might serve as a RO membrane in water desalination using classical mol...

Preparation of new composite membranes for water desalination using electrodialysis

The use of polyethersulfone (PES), an excellent but highly hydrophobic thermoplastic, as a matrix material for ionexchange membranes was investigated. To make PES ion-exchangeable, sulfonate groups were introduced to the polymer chains by sulfonation reaction with chlorosulfonic acid. The degree of sulfonation of sPES was estimated to be 21%. Preliminary experiments investigated the effect of p...
